Depressed
We all feel disappointed, fed up or circumstantially depressed at times as a normal response to uncomfortable experiences. Once the event or situation has resolved or passed we should regain a sense that life is good again. But what happens if we don’t?
More serious depression can result and present severe challenges. In such cases a person can withdraw or lash out, feel emotionally flat or numb, lose appetite, lack motivation, or suffer insomnia, among other symptoms. It can have a profoundly negative impact on day-to-day life and functioning. In these circumstances professional medical help must be sought and the reasons for depression looked into and addressed.
